$9 million grant to investigate blood-clotting disorders

School of Medicine researchers have received a $9 million grant to investigate blood-clotting disorders. From heart attacks and strokes to uncontrolled bleeding, clotting disorders annually cause more deaths in the United States than all types of cancer combined.

Gephardt Institute selects new cohort of Civic Scholars

The Gephardt Institute for Public Service has selected seven juniors as the second cohort of its Civic Scholars Program, joining five seniors selected last year. The students were chosen for outstanding qualifications, exemplary dedication to community engagement and potential for civic leadership.

Women’s soccer hosts NCAA First and Second Rounds

The No. 4 WUSTL women’s soccer team will host 2012 NCAA Division III First and Second Round action Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 10-11, at Francis Field. The Bears are making their seventh-consecutive and 12th overall appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Ninth Annual Children’s Film Showcase this weekend

In 1827, a young giraffe named Zarafa was shipped from the Sudan to Paris, where her arrival caused an immediate sensation. That true history forms the basis of Zarafa, an animated French film. This weekend, the Center for the Humanities and the Film and Media Studies Program, both in Arts & Sciences, will screen Zarafa as part of the Ninth Annual Children’s Film Showcase.

Olin competition focuses
on sustainable land use

The annual Olin Sustainability Case Competition kicks off at 4 p.m. today in Simon Hall. This year’s case will revolve around vacant land use in St. Louis. Open to all WUSTL graduate and undergraduate students, the competition is a chance to learn about practical, real-world applications of corporate responsibility and sustainability concepts.

Clemens, London selected to St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame

WUSTL Sports Hall of Fame members Teri Clemens and Stan London, MD ’49, will be inducted into the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame at an Enshrinement Dinner Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Millennium Hotel. Clemens previously coached volleyball and London is a former student-athlete.
